Nishat Lal

Nishat Lal was raised in Cardiff, Wales. A born Muslim of Indian origin, she began studying Arabic at age fourteen—this was her springboard to receiving bachelor’s degrees in Arabic and history from the University of London. She then traveled to Syria for her third year of study, where she met Dr. Tamara Gray, earned her ijāza in tajwīd and studied at the University of Damascus. Nishat has taught both Arabic and tajwīd online extensively as well as in person. Nishat has been teaching Arabic with the Ribaat Academic Institute since 2014. Nishat is also a ḥalaqa teacher for Rabata. She recently published a children’s book called I Am Palestindian about her daughter who is Palestinian and Indian (hence Palestindian). It’s a book about identity and culture and celebrates mixed families.
