Najiyah Maxfield

Najiyah Maxfield, writer and educator, currently serves as Head of Publishing at Daybreak Press. She dedicates her time to teaching courses on creative writing and public speaking and leading Rabata’s Project Lina workshops. She also taught English and history in the US and the Middle East and holds a Ribaat Teaching Certificate and a Dare to Lead Certificate. She was the Managing Editor of Discover: The Magazine for Curious Muslim Kids from 2012 – 2015.

Najiyah lives in Hutchinson, Kansas where she kayaks in the summer, crochets in the winter, and plays “The Floor is Lava” with her four granddaughters year-round. She is the author of many articles, poems and short stories. Her young adult novel, Sophia’s Journal, is an award-winning time-travel adventure that explores themes of inclusion and identity and is being taught in several schools across North America.
